Perfect Attendance Award

This is quite a feat: finishing every SSSS race this season, September through May, including the Toliva Shoal Race. Edgewalker came close. She missed only one race, Toliva Shoal. But two boats did it. This earned them the Perfect Attendance Award.

Charlemagne was one of those boats. Over the last nine months, she was out for all of the eighteen days of SSSS racing.

Koosah was the second boat. She has been out for every season race for the last twelve years, that is over 200 races! I find this almost unbelievable. And they have raced the Southern Sound Series too. Not to mention the summer races; though they missed several of these they usually sail more than they miss. As I write they are headed back to Swiftsure.

I say “they” because this is truly a team effort. Everyone needs to show up consistently to never miss a race. The crew deserves much of the credit for this award.
Congratulations to Dave, Gary, and their crews.

Andrew Jackson Trophy

The Andy Jackson Trophy is given annually for the “world’s fastest time around Hope Island” that year: May Meeting to May Meeting. More information about this award can be found in our Handbook. This year Rod Tharp, Strider, turned in a 1:21:13 run. This corrected to 1:15:22. This is the fastest time to date and good enough to win the award. Congratulations!!

USSA Medal Awarded

The USSA’s Arthur B Hanson Rescue Medal was presented to John DeMeyer and the crew of Balder at the June Meeting. This award is given to pleasure boat skippers who recover an involuntary swimmer. In this case they recovered Dan Briscoe when he went overboard during the 2004 McAllister Creek Race. Dan wrote about the incident last year. It was printed in 48 North. We have a copy on our web site.
Congratulations to John and crew
