How to use the Clubhouse

The Clubhouse is designed to better inform our Members about the South Sound Sailing Society and its events. The best way to learn what is here is to explore.

Here are some starting points. You can bookmark any of them.

You got here through the Entry Hall. There are links to all of the below there, as well as links to some often used files, like race results and the next Meeting’ speaker.

Want to know what’s Happening?

The Calendar shows you the upcoming events chronologically. Descriptions are linked to it.

For a fuller account pick up a copy of the Ship-to-Shore On-line, our newsletter. Read about recent events and Officers Reports. There are photos of SSSS events, those printed and some extras, with links to more.
We also have Member’s cruising stories, articles on topics of interest to Members ranging from bottom painting rules to fire safety to the running of the Port’s marina, and/or anything else of interest to Members.
It comes out in print monthly, September to June. The on-line version will also have a Summer issue, and be updated as needed.

For a more focused interest check out that particular office:

The Business Office has information on contacting the Officers, dues and fees, including a Membership form, the By-laws, Board Meeting minutes, placing paid S-t-S advertising: those things that have to do with running the club.

The Race Office has detailed information about our race programs: race schedules, sailing instructions, course charts, RC instructions and duty lists, etc. for our PHRF, and Portsmouth racing. Star racing information is in the Star Fleet Office. Non program specific race information is here too, like the Race Rules and links to other sailing clubs and the organizations the Club belongs to.
There is section with current RC news: the RC Chairs’ reports, proposed changes to the programs, the scorer’s pleadings, PHRF NW reports, racing education, etc. And of course race results,

The Cruise Office, has information about SSSS sponsored Cruises. The Cruise Schedule is there. So are descriptions and photos of past Cruises, going back years.
There are also links to weather reports, tide tables, on line charts, aerial photos of the shore line, marine state parks, boat ramps, and more

The Bar gives Members a place to interact. There is a form for Members to post messages. There are links to Member’s photos of SSSS events and boats, and to Member’s web pages. There is a link to the S-t-S Letters from Members: some are from those out cruising the world, from Tacoma to Fiji and beyond, others are concerned with local matters, like the Port development.
All the content does not come from our Members. There are sailing magazines to browse, ... and anything considered fun and games that is, of course, sailing related is welcome.

The Toliva Shoal Race Office has information on the Toliva Shoal Race: entry form, sailing instructions, photos and reports of past races etc.

You can buy SSSS burgees, hats, T-shirts, etc. at the Chandlery. Download a form to order by mail.

What is the South Sound Sailing Society

The South Sound Sailing Society is a group of the area folks who share a love for sailing. It was founded 38 years ago and has grown to a group of about 200 families and single people who enjoy the camaraderie of meeting, racing, and cruising together.
The club is a member of PHRF of the NW, PIYA, and the USSA. We are the home of the Budd Inlet Star Fleet, a ISCYRA member fleet.

What do we do?

Some of us race, some cruise, and some of us can’t get enough of either.

SSSS Members meet the second Tuesday of the month, except July and August, at the Olympia Yacht Club, 201 North Simmons, at 1900, doors open at 1830. A typical meeting consists of a very short business meeting followed by a program of interest to sailors.
In the past, we’ve had top-notch speakers, such as yacht designer Bob Perry and gold-medalist Bill Buchan, as well as top sail makers and world cruisers.
We also have educational and entertaining films with topics ranging from America’s Cup highlights to cruising Vancouver Island.
To find out about the
next General Meeting click.

SSSS sponsors a year-round racing and cruising program.
In addition to providing a full schedule of local keelboat races,
we cosponsor the Toliva Shoal Race each February,
and a summer schedule of small boat races.
SSSS members have monthly cruises to local waters with potlucks, games, and a general good time.

Most of all, SSSS members have a great time pursuing their common interest.
The only prerequisite to membership is an interest in sailing. Owning a boat is not necessary, and our meetings are open to anyone who is interested.

What do I get for my money?

In addition to a full racing and cruising program, not to mention the Meetings, your membership buys a monthly newsletter, again except in July and August, to keep you informed of club happenings.

Membership also provides you a wide range of reciprocal moorage opportunities on Puget Sound and Canadian waters.
And as SSSS is a PYIA club, Members are eligible to race at most races run by other clubs on the Sound.

Most of all, your dollars afford you the opportunity to learn, grow, and share with some of the nicest people we know.

Any Board Member would be happy to answer your questions.
