South Sound Islands Series

There will be long and short courses for the Eagle Island and Herron Island races: D and Star classes will sail the short course. These races can be shortened at any rounding mark of the course. Other shortening points are listed for specific races as appropriate.

Courses:
Eagle Island :
Start and finish between the Race Committee Boat and race Mark 4, Olympia Shoal
Long Course: Leave the stake boat at the Northwest corner of Anderson Island to port.
Short Course: Leave the temporary SSSS mark south of Devils Head to starboard.
Either race can be shortened at the Itsami Ledge mark Y.
Squaxin Island :
Start and finish between the Race Committee Boat and race Mark 5.
Leave Squaxin Island to port.
Herron Island :
Start and finish between the Race Committee Boat and race Mark 4, Olympia Shoal
Long Course: Leave Herron Island to port.
Short Course: Leave SSSS mark H, southeast of Herron Island, to port.
Hope Island :
Start and finish between the Race Committee Boat and race Mark 4.
Round Hope Island in either direction. . The course can be shortened at Hunter Point in either direction.

Courses
There will be long and short courses for McAllister Creek, Henderson Inlet, and Skookum Inlet races: D and Star classes will sail the short course. These races can be shortened at any rounding mark of the course. Other shortening points are listed for specific races as appropriate.
Eld Inlet
Leave the E mark in Eld Inlet to port.
McAllister Creek
Long Course: Leave Government buoy No. 3 off Nisqually Delta to port.
Short Course: Leave SSSS bouy Z, Zittle’s, north of Baird Cove to port
Either race can be shortened at the Itsami Ledge mark, race mark Y, to be signaled by the RC boat anchoring by the mark and flying code flag S. Then finish between the RC boat and mark Y.
Henderson Inlet
Long Course: Leave the mark boat in Henderson Inlet and Race Mark Y, Itsami Ledge, to port.
Short Course: Leave race mark Y, Itsami Ledge, to port.
Skookum Inlet
Long Course: Leave Hope Island and the stake boat off Little Skookum Inlet to port.
Short Course: Leave Hope Island and and SSSS temporary bouy southwest off green Steamboat Island Spit marker to port. Either course may be shortened between the committee boat and Steamboat Island Spit marker.

Spring Regatta

May 16, 2009

After the first race subsequent starting times are at the discretion of the Committee Boat. All boats are to stand by after finishing, taking care to not interfere with boats still racing. All starting sequences will be the same as the first race. As many races will be run as possible with a lunch break somewhere around noon and the last race starting no later than 1800.

Jack & Jill and Single-handed Races

A weekend of short handed races held before our first (September) Meeting.
All Members are welcome to sail either or both. There is no race fee.

Special requirements :

1 Jack & Jill Races:
The number of persons on board is limited to one female and one male.

2 Single-handed Races:
Only one person can sail the boat. A non-participating observer may accompany the sailor. The sailor and observer are not interchangeable at any time during the racing or pre-start sequence.

3 Both races:
3.1 There will be no handicap changes for these races. Handicaps will be as registered.
If handicapped for them, flying sails may be used at the skipper’s discretion and sole risk.

3.2 Automatic steering devices are not allowed; wheel brakes or tying the helm are permitted.

3.3 Life jackets are recommended.

All boats start together. Starting time(s) of races after race 1 will be at the discretion of the Race Committee Boat. Up to 3 races may be run. No race will start after 1600.
All boats are to stand by after finishing, taking care not to interfere with boats still racing.

Course: as designated by the Race Committee Boat.

Finish Time Limit: 2.5 hours after each class start

Classes:
1. There will be at least two classes: one for PHRF boats and one for D Class boats. Boats will be assigned to a class based on which class they last registered in.
2. The Race Committee may divide yachts into more classes based on handicaps and change the starting sequence by oral instruction from the Race Committee Boat.

Eligibility: Open to all SSSS Members. Payment of a race fee is not required.

Awards: SSSS Awards, by class if so divided.
