The Star Class District 6 Championship Regatta was a great event for all thanks to the superb work of Vicky Sheldon and her race committee crew. I am very appreciative of all who stepped forward to help out and all who participated in this event. This was our first effort at hosting a major Star event and everything worked well. We challenged the Westbay Marina hoist staff with our in and out schedule, but they did an excellent job as well.
The winds played with us on Saturday with one race having good winds and the second a challenge to finish. We all had to come back in at the end of a tow rope. Sunday started with light fluky winds and finished with winds 15 plus. Altogether we got off five races for the Championship and six races for the Open Division. We had 21 boats out each day, 9 in the Championship Division and 12 in the Open Division.
There were no mishaps or protests which says all was great. Dave Watt and Mike Thompson won the Championship, though they needed the tie breaker to beat Foss Miller and Stu Frost. Our own Derek Decourteau and Linda Koran placed third in the Championship Division. Eric Eggie, with a different crew each day, placed first in the Open Division. The racing was all close and a good time was had by all.
