BISF MONDAY MATCH RACING
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

March 2008

1. RULES
The races will be governed by the 2005-8 Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of USSA; the class rules in the Fleet By -laws, except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions; and by these Sailing Instructions. Appendix C will not be used except as indicated in these Sailing Instructions.

2 ENTRIES
Competitors may enter by sending an email to the Race Chair, smit_oly@msn.com, during the week prior to the match race. There is a six match limit on a given night, with boats chosen on a first come first serve basis.

3 NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
Notices to competitors will be provided by e-mail or verbally.

4 SCHEDULE
Match races will be held on the Mondays when fleet racing is not scheduled if participation warrants. A competitors’ meeting will be held on the Committee Dock at 1730 to assign matches, flag numbers, and boat colors. The warning signal for the first race will be at approximately 1830. Subsequent races will be held as soon as possible after the end of the previous race.

6 REQUIREMENTS BEFORE THE START
At her preparatory signal each boat shall be outside the line that is a 90 degree angle to the starting line through the starting mark at her assigned end. In the pairing list the boat listed on the left-hand side is assigned the port end and shall display a yellow flag from her starboard shroud while racing. The other boat is assigned the starboard end and shall display a green flag while racing. For subsequent races the boats will switch ends.

Within the two-minute period following her preparatory signal, a boat shall cross and clear the starting line, the first time from the course side to the pre-start side. Failing to do so requires a boat to comply with Section 9 Penalties.

7 COURSE and MARKS
The course will be as given in Appendix A Match Race Course. All marks will be yellow or orange inflatable marks set by the RC.

8 TIME LIMIT
The time limit for each race will be 60 minutes.

9 PROTESTS AND PENALTIES
The committee may hail/signal a penalty to the competitors during the starting sequence. The competitors will call penalties thereafter. Penalties shall be in accordance with RRS C7 Penalty System, except C7.2(b) & (f), C7.3(d), the last sentence of C7.4(b), and C7.4(c) are deleted. Also, there are no red flag penalties. Protests can be made verbally. Hearings will be held as soon as possible after racing that day in Tug Boat Annie. A jury will be chosen from the competitors of the other matches. In lieu of a protest hearing a round may be purchases as an alternate penalty if the other party to the protest agrees.

10 SCORING
The boat that wins the most races for the day will be the winner of the match. If tied the winner of the last race is the winner. The winner treats the loser at Tugboat Annie’s after the racing.

Appendix A Courses
Match Race Course

Marks are orange or yellow inflatable buoys set by the RC

W = Windward Mark; L = Leeward Mark/ Finish Mark; B = Limit Mark; P = Pin; S = Signal Boat L will be located approximately 100 feet starboard of S; B will be located just aft of S

START between S and P leaving B to port; the Line is between the orange flag on S and mark P.
FINISH between the L and S; or between S and a mark if the course is shortened.

The course will be Windward Leeward twice around. Leave W & L to Starboard. The course may be shortened at W or L.
