The Ballad of Brosius
in Limerick

There once was a sailor named Bill
Who skippered Starduster with skill
But he missed competition
He had racing ambition
A one-design fleet was his thrill.

So he started collecting the Stars
Searching hither and yon, near and far
Drove all over the west
Searching only the best
His persistence was quite above par

Of course, some of them needed work
But that never caused Brosius to shirk
He sanded and glassed
Welded more than one mast
We’re sure it drove Cecilia berserk

At last he could see at his float
Boat after boat after boat
Glass ones and wood
He sure had done good
Oe’r his fleet he had reason to gloat

But one aspect of this was a pain
Starseeker kept filling with rain
Though the tarp was of plastic
The wind was too drastic
All the pumping was really a pain

So we’ve crafted a tarp to repay you
For your time and your help and what say you
In the bow it is long
In the grommets quite strong
Now the bilge will no longer dismay you.

Mary Campbell

Mary read this aloud at the October Meeting, before presenting Bill with a boat cover.
