Sailors, I want to call your attention to a small ad that regularly appears in the S-t-S for Gudenuph Boat Works, which I found out is a code name for George Hansen’s very well equipped shop.

I contacted George about a relatively small job, bringing my terribly de-laminated and weather-beaten tiller back to life. I thought George was just going to tell me how, or assist me in doing the job. But No. He simply took the tiller from me, telling me he would have it done in a week or two.

When I asked him the cost, he looked positively offended. He asked, “Didn’t you read the fine print in the ad? You trying to ruin my reputation?” The ad reads: Small jobs done for free. Seriously.

Although I tried to convince him to charge me a reasonable sum, he would not budge. Finally, in response to my need to repay him in some fashion, George said that, if I was satisfied with his work, I could write the S-t-S telling people so. Because, he said, “I could use some more work.”

Long story short, I was very pleased when George handed me the well restored shinning tiller a couple weeks later.

So to fulfill my part of the bargain, I invite all of you to take advantage of this jewel in our midst. Remember, “Idle hands are the devils workshop.” So do not let George have idle hands!!

Most sincerely
Thom Abbott, Heather
