Ian,
I hope this finds you in good health and enjoying sailing as much as ever. Lori and I are still in Hawaii, on Oahu. I was web surfing the SSSS web site and wandering around yachtworld.com to see what the boat market is doing back in Olympia. I noticed that our old Catalina 30, Tinker Toy, is once again up for sale; my how times have changed.

After that one abortive sail I had on your J/80 Uproar, I’ve been very interested in J boats, and the J/105 in particular. Last year one of the three J/105 in Hawaii, two here on Oahu and one over on Maui, came up for sale. Needless to say I was interested and in fact I was able to buy Puff. Lori and I race her in our local Yacht Club but have so far decided against racing in any Hawaii Yacht Racing Association sanctioned events.

I’ve enclosed a picture of us sailing into Pearl Harbor; the gray boats in the background kind of give away the location. Please try to ignore the poor reef, I’ve got plenty of excuses for that one: the Dacron main is really a mess, that was one of the first times I’d ever tried to reef the main, and have you seen the goofy way J/105 reefing lines are set up ...

I noticed that you guys have once again got your BB running, but those of us not currently Members of SSSS don’t get to see what is happening. My new club is not quite so web savvy as SSSS, nor is my newsletter even close to what you guys have done with the Ship-to-Shore. Iroquois Lagoon Yacht Club only has some 80 or so members, and we all have to have some sort of military affiliation as the Lagoon our marina is on is tucked just inside Pearl Harbor.

If you, or any SSSS Members, come to Oahu give them my name, number, and e-mail address should they want to come by a little tin roofed Hawaiian Yacht Club to “talk story” or go out for a sail on the big blue Ocean. I got to talk all about SSSS and growing up in Olympia with Ian Beswick and the crew of Artemis last year after TRANSPAC. ILYC was the local host for Artemis, who I notice did very well in this year’s Toliva Shoal Race.
Say hi to George and Betty Hansen for us ...
and may the wind always fill your sails.

Big Al Cameron, Puff
ILYC Secretary
