About South Sound Sailing Society

ABOUT US – Not your typical Yacht Club

The South Sound Sailing Society is a local group of folks who share a love for sailing. Founded in 1971 in Olympia, Washington, it has grown to over 200 families and individuals who enjoy meeting, racing and cruising together. The SSSS Club is a 501(c)7 non-profit organization.

Members meet on the second Tuesday of every month, except July and August. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and the Doors open at 6:30pm.  (See How to Join for more information.) What do we do? Some of us race, some cruise, and some of us can’t get enough of either.

SSSS sponsors a year-round racing and cruising program. In addition to a full schedule of local keelboat races, we cosponsor the Toliva Shoal Race each February, where we invite boats from Tacoma and Seattle. We are home to the Budd Inlet Star Fleet, one of the largest in the country, and our dinghy fleet has handicap and one design Laser racing all summer.

For those who prefer cruising, SSSS sponsors monthly cruises to local waters with potlucks, games, and a general good time. Most of all, SSSS members have a great time pursuing their common interest.

The only prerequisite to membership is an interest in sailing. Owning a boat is not necessary, and our meetings are open to anyone who is interested.
